John Zerzan papers, 1946-2000.

Collection comprises correspondence and literary manuscripts of American anarchist and author John Zerzan, as well as radical and anarchist publications and ephemera. Correspondence includes letters from anarchist primitivist thinkers John Moore, Freddy Perlman, and John Filiss, as well as from individuals convicted for crimes related to anarchist or environmentalist causes, including Theodore Kaczynski, Robert Thaxton, Jeffrey Luers, and Jim Magnuson. Literary manuscripts include essays, articles, speeches, and editorial letters by Zerzan. A separate series of unpublished articles contains Zerzan's collection of position papers, short articles, and papers written by individuals and organizations interested in anarchist subjects. Publications include large circulation radical publications, ca. 1980-2000, many of which include articles written by or about Zerzan; short print publications and zines presenting anarchist-primitivist perspectives; topic files containing newsclippings and magazine articles on the arrest of Theodore Kaczynski and the Unabomber trial, as well as anarchism, primitivism, and the anti-globalization movement; and ephemeral publications, including local and international anarchist handbills, posters, and other materials on such topics as radical environmentalism, the Unabomber, and Eugene anarchist events.

John Zerzan (1943- ) is an American activist in anarchy, primitivist philosopher, and author who lives in Eugene, Oregon. Zerzan edits and writes for anarchist periodicals and hosts a radio show. His four major books are Elements of refusal (1988), Future primitive and other essays (1994), Against civilization: a reader (1998) and Running on emptiness (2002).
